Journal Entry 13 (6/8/25)

A few nights ago, on 6/25, my family and I were in the backyard just before sunset. My daughter was chasing fireflies, and my husband and I were sitting on the steps. On the back side of one of my dog’s houses, several round lights swept across the boards and then disappeared. I could see them very clearly, but they were there and gone so fast that I didn’t get to tell my husband to look in time. He did not notice them. It was unexpected and made me gasp and look around for a source of light that could have done that! I thought maybe a car’s headlights had somehow swept across the yard, but there was nothing like that around at the time.
Last night, on 6/28, a noise woke me up in the night. It sounded like it was coming from the right side of the bed, my side, and sounded like something was bumping either the wall or my nightstand. I did not feel threatened and went back to sleep. Maybe it was the dog?
The sound woke me up again. This time, it sounded as though something was rolling on the nightstand or inside of the drawer. I remembered seeing an acorn in the drawer earlier and thinking how funny it was, there mixed in with all the chargers and wires and electronics. In my half-asleep haze, that was enough of an explanation, and I went back to sleep. It did not occur to me at the time that it would not have been rolling around in the drawer on its own.
This morning, while my husband and daughter were in the kitchen, they both heard what my husband described as a high-pitched sound — something that sounded like a noise that a printer would make — and they came to my bedroom looking for me to see if I had heard it too! This was different, because it was in the bright morning hours, and they definitely were not groggy or half-asleep when they heard it. I feel that we spend enough time with our indoor pets (we have cats, a dog, and a bird) that if the noise was coming from one of them, we would recognize it.
