Stranger Than Fiction

On the evening of 6/9/25, my husband went into the office to put something in the closet, and when he came out, the office door had shut behind him. It does not generally rest in the shut position — or rather, if it swings open, it usually stays open, so he was confused to see that it had shut and yet neither my daughter nor I were in the office with him.
Then, on the night of 6/11/25, it was a short time after lying down in bed, and my daughter was already asleep. Suddenly, several thumping and popping sounds started coming from outside. It sounded as though something was either on the roof (for some reason, this was my first thought) or something was pressing against the siding on the house, causing the popping sounds. I got out of bed and hurried into the living room where my husband was still awake, and we both opened the door to see what was causing the commotion — cows.
There were four cows standing right next to the bedroom window. They slowly meandered away — I hope they made it home! —
Such a funny ending to an intense moment!
